To further establish ourselves as a dominant player in the global ferro alloys industry, BRAHM Group is in the process of setting up an integrated plant with higher capacity at Barjora, in the Bankura district of West Bengal. This plant is being set up keeping in mind the rising demand in the global ferro alloys market.

Capacity

5 x 11 MVA Ferro Alloys plant
2 x 500 TPD Manganese Sinter plant
2 x 30 MW Captive Power Plant

Industry Scenario

West Bengal is conducive for production due to availability of power, land at economical rates and cheap labour. Ferro Alloys are essential ingredients for production of various types of carbon and alloy steel. Ferro Silicon, Ferro Manganese and Ferro Chrome are used in the steel manufacturing industry in large quantities for production of various types of steel and alloy steel. The demand in the global market is increasing rapidly and the potential for exports of ferro manganese and ferro silicon are very promising for the next decade.

Locational Advantage

A 100% EOU, the project is located at Borjora in the Bankura district of West Bengal. It is easily accessible to the Kolkata and Haldia ports. The proposed plant is close to the Damodar river which will provide us with adequate water supply. The plant has easy access to railways and roads as it is located near to Durgapur railway station and National Highway 2. The Barjora Plasto Steel Park – a fully integrated industrial park promoted by WBIDC and set up for the steel and plastic industries – presents another locational advantage for the unit as ferro alloys are the major inputs for the steel and iron industry.

The Product

Ferro Alloys refers to various alloys of iron with a high proportion of one or more elements like manganese or silicon. It is used in the production of all types of steel and alloys as a raw material. They impart distinctive qualities to steel and cast iron or serve important functions during production. The leading Ferro Alloy producing countries are China, South Africa and Russia. The principal ferro alloys are Ferro Manganese, Ferro Chromium, Ferro Silicon, etc. Ferro alloys are prepared from charges of the non-ferrous metal ore, iron ore, coke or coal and flux by treatment at high temperature in sub-merged arc furnaces.

The Raw Material

The quality of the end product depends upon the quality of the various raw materials. It is critical that the raw material should qualify for the specific quality requirement demanded by the process. The raw materials required for production are manganese ore, coke, limestone, coal, dolomite and quartzite.

To ensure customer satisfaction and high level of quality, we shall largely import our raw materials from South Africa, Turkey and a few other European countries. To further enhance our project viability, the group is considering acquiring coal and manganese ore mines in various parts of the globe.
